Lake Mburo national park is located in kiruhura district in western region of Uganda. The national park covers about 260 square km. Lake Mburo national park is a savannah park that was gazzated in 1933, upgraded in a game reserve in1963. It is home to over 315 bird species, ruppells long tailed starling, green pigeon making it a good birding haven especially in Rubanga forest and a number of mammals, impala, zebra, buffalo, eland the biggest antelope, oribi, water buck, topi, reedbuck, hippo and cats like the leopard. Out of the 13 lakes around Lake Mburo national park, 5 are within the park, the park is also covered by a 50 km long swamp that is part of Lake Mburo and the swamp is fed by river Ruizi. The lake and lush fringing vegetation support healthy populations of buffalo, warthog, bushpig, and hippopotamus.
The parks vegetation mainly consists of open savannah and acacia woodland, dry hills, bushes, thickets and forests which is also featured with a mix of rocky ridges, metamorphic rocks which date back 500 million years.
The drive to Lake Mburo national park is 4 hours drive from Kampala making it the closest park from the capital.

Horse Back Safaris
Lake Mburo National Park offers horseback safaris which gives us a chance to explore the park in style. This is one unique activity you must not miss while on a visit to mburo national park. Animals like the buffalo and eland, warthog, impala, duiker, zebra and the water bucks. This activity takes you to the hill tops of the park.
Game Walk

Hiking to the wood land offers sight of lakes in Lake Mburo national park respectively, on the game walk you come across the salt lick which is a good congregation of wildlife.
Bird Watching
Lake Mburo is a good haven for birding with over 315 bird’s species that can be explored by birders. The swampy shores and forest are a good spot for birding. For example African fish eagle, pied king fisher, herons, marabou stock and the rare shoe bill stork.
Game Drive
The game drive through lake Mburo National Park take you to the impala and the zebra tracks on which a number of animals can be sighted such as buffalo, topi. Game drives also offer views of land scape, hills and rock outcrops. The best time for game drives is early morning and late in the afternoon to look out for wildlife.
Boat Cruise
In lake mburo national park the boat cruise offers a beautiful scenic view amidst the water were we are able to sight crocodile, hippos, at the shores water bucks, buffalos, bushbucks and water bucks among others.
On this boat safari birders are also covered with sight of birds like African fish eagle, pied king fisher, herons, marabou stock among other birds.
This 3 day trip to Lake Mburo National Park leads us to Uganda’s closest park from Kampala the capital. We shall have a stopover at the equator and take part in the water experiment, take photos as well as buying craft.
While in the park you shall have a game drive giving you an opportunity to sight a number of animals like the hippos, Roth’s child giraffe, antelopes, zebras and Topi and for birders a number of birds will be sighted. A boat cruise on Lake Mburo were a number of aquatic animals shall be observed and these include crocodiles, hippos and water birds among others. The trip will feature a guided game walk through the park.
