Queen Elizabeth National Park is located in the western part of Uganda in Kasese district where lakes George and Edward meet to form the kazinga channel. Kazinga channel has a congregation of animals such as a profusion of hippos and crocodiles, elephants, Uganda kobs, buffalos at the shores, warthog and a number of bird species that are in the park such as grey headed kingfisher and flamingos at the katwe salt lake. Queen Elizabeth national park is covered with savannah, forest, swamps among others. The park is also home to the famous tree climbing lions of ishasha and the chimpanzees of kalinzu and kyambura gorge.
It takes about 8 hours drive from Kampala to Queen Elizabeth national park via the Kampala – Masaka high way. One can drive through fort portal route and with air transport from Entebbe Airport to mweya airstrip in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Queen Elizabeth national park was visited by the Queen of England in 1952 when it was still known as the Kazinga national park. It occupies about 1978 square kilometers and is home to over 95 species of mammals and over 600 bird species with in the park.
While in Queen Elizabeth National Park one can engage in a number of activities.
Game drives which take you to the different tracks in Queen Elizabeth, tracks like the Kasenyi track such as the lions, butterflies, birds such as the king pied fisher, African fish eagle.
Boat cruise safari on the kazinga channel that gives you a chance to sight a number of animals such as hippos and crocodiles.
Chimpanzee tracking and nature walks in both kalinzu forest and kyambura, lion tracking in ishasha sector which involves looking out for the tree climbing lions up in the fig trees.
Community visits: while in the park you may visit a number of sites such as the katwe Crater Lake salt mine were you shall see how salt is mined locally.
Bird watching, Nature walks and community walks
Crater drive: This involves driving along the northern side of the mweya peninsular along the Kasenyi crater drive giving you scenic views of the craters.
